The Baghdad Hummer Odyssey |
|
|
In June 2003 freelance cameraman Ron Kennedy discovered the above Hummer which after breaking down had been abandoned by Fox News in the car park of the Sheraton Hotel, Baghdad. It was the first civilian vehicle embedded with troops during any war and was used by reporter Greg Kelly and cameraman James Malcolm of Fox News, as they followed the US troops from Kuwait into Baghdad. The vehicle arrived in the UK in March 2004 having been repaired and extensively modified. This
unedited video shows the journey from Baghdad to Kuwait along what was
initially a tarmac road which declined into desert. You see shots of
the crew purchasing ice in the suburbs of Baghdad. The seller began
arguing with our Arab crew, apparently he did not want to sell us this
particular block since it was the "display model". He wanted us to go in
the factory and get a fresh one. At the time this was filmed (June 2003)
the insurgents had only just begun their campaign. The pipe line you see
on fire is due to an attack. The film ends near the border with Kuwait. For more
